Great Days in Honduras...

I'm sitting at my desk in the new office building. Today's my first day back at work. This Thursday school starts up again. Life is really returning to normal.
I just had an amazing ten days, and so it is a little tough to get back into the routine of things again. I had the opportunity to go to Honduras with TORCH Missions and serve the Lord by serving the people there. It was truly awesome; I just don't know how to describe it much more than that. There are a lot of stories, a lot of exciting things that happened, but I kept those all in a paper journal, and not online. The stories and the memorable experiences aren't what I want to share right now. I want to share some of what I learned.
I learned about patience and trust. I make plans for my life, and I center everything around how I want or I think things should go. James 4 couldn't give a better description of my attitude at times. "Tomorrow we're going to do this, and stay there for a year for such and such a purpose." But God says we should instead say, "If the Lord wills." God has a plan and a way that is so much higher and better than anything we could contrive. If it is His will for something to take place, that it will be done, despite me. If it is not His will, then I should get out of the way, because He's obviously planning something better than what I had in mind in the first place! We need to put all of our trust in Him. This morning, I was thinking about what that means. Often times, I love to tell God that I trust Him. But I can't fool God; He knows whats really in my heart. My indicator of my trust will be my life and actions.
I learned about sharing the word. When Parker, Maria, and I went out to teach the Gospel to people one day, the responses always varied. But the message really never changed. There isn't anything magical or miraculous about it. It's just telling people about Jesus. It's easy, and it even feels good. I hope I can carry that evangelistic zeal into life here.
I learned about love. "If I have faith to move mountains, and yet do not have love, I am nothing." Preach it Paul! Love is what it's really all about. In everything we do, we should show love. Behind all of our energy and strength, there should be love driving us. The love that we should have for others, but also the love that God has for us. Make no mistake about it: God is all about love. It's the most important thing in life to Him, and so it should be to us too.
What a great trip. But as we all talked about the last night at the Mission House, the trip is really never over. Our home is heaven, and so we are still in a foreign land on a mission for God until we go to that home above.
They were great days in Honduras, but every day is really a great day, because God gives it to us to grow in Christ and glorify Him. That's a great day, right there.
